Abstract:

The Nayaka community, classified as a Scheduled Tribe in Karnataka, has historically faced marginalization in terms of social, educational, and economic development. To address these disparities, the Government of Karnataka established the Valmiki Development Corporation, also known as Valmiki Abhivruddi Nigama, with the primary aim of uplifting the Nayaka, Bedar, and other tribal groups. This paper examines the role of Valmiki Abhivruddi Nigama in empowering the Nayaka community, analyzing its policies, schemes, and their on-ground implementation. Using both qualitative and quantitative data, the study evaluates the effectiveness of the corporation in improving livelihoods, education, skill development, housing, and access to welfare. The article also provides a review of relevant literature and offers recommendations for improving the institutional mechanisms targeting tribal development in Karnataka.
